Mobile device GPS accuracy can be affected by many factors such as topography, weather, location and device type, and it's not unusual for it to be weak at times. To get the best signal accuracy when capturing location data, disable any battery saver settings and ensure cellular, wifi and bluetooth connectivity are all turned on. Allowing a minute between retries can often help with accuracy too.
On an Android device:
To assist your device's GPS readings, turn on Google Location Accuracy by doing the following:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen
- Touch and hold Location / GPS (alternatively, search for 'Location' or 'GPS' in your Android device's settings)
- Tap Location Services (or Advanced) > Google Location Accuracy
- Turn Improve Location Accuracy/High accuracy on
- If they're available, ensure both Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning are turned on
On an iPhone/iPad:
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and tap on Diggit (or search 'Diggit')
- Tap Location
- Tap While Using the App or Always
- Make sure Precise Location is turned on
Some great general tips can also be found here. Mobile device signal accuracy is something that we will continue to work on during Diggit's future development, though for the most reliable location information, we'd recommend using dedicated GPS equipment.
